Overview

NEXT™ Insert Tooling System for Trumpf Style Presses

The NEXT™ Insert Tooling System includes: Interchangeable, abrasion resistant, punch inserts. Two sizes of insert punch holders with precision orientation features. Precision ground shims which return the punch insert to the original length after 0.118(3.00) has been removed during regrinding.

The NEXT™ Insert Tooling System holders are available two sizes to accommodate punch points with a diagonal dimension from 0.030(0.80) to 1.575(40.00) and from 1.576(40.01) to 3.000(76.20). NEXT™ holders combine the functions of a conventional punch shank and alignment ring into a single assembly. The integral alignment design provides precise tooling orientation and make installing the inserts quick and easy, thereby facilitating faster tool changes.

The NEXT™ Insert Tooling System delivers longer tooling life. The punch inserts maximize the interval between regrinds. In addition, the NEXT™ Insert Tooling System includes a shim that is installed between the punch and the holder, once 0.118(3.00) has been removed from the punch during sharpening. This returns the punch to its original length, instead of requiring replacement.

Punch Holder

Punch Insert

  • High-Speed Steel, for extended intervals between sharpening.
  • Punch points with diagonal dimension from 0.031-1.181(0.80-30.00) use M4 High Speed Steel to deliver the longest possible interval between regrinds.
  • Punch points with diagonal dimension from 1.181 -1.575(30.01-40.00) is M2 which delivers exceptional edge wear resistance.
  • 1/4-degree back taper and near polished punch flanks to reduce friction, eliminate galling and extend punch grind life.
  • Maxima® coating or Nitride treatment available for extreme punching applications.

Shim

  • Precision shim, installed between the punch holder and punch insert after 0.118(3.00) has been removed from the punch during sharpening.
  • Returns punch to original length instead of being replaced.

Urethane Stripper

  • Provides positive, on-the-die stripping to eliminate sheet rattle and reduce punching noise.
  • Locks securely onto punch holder, with internal ridge to provide reliable operation.
  • Especially useful for decorative materials that would be damaged with a conventional metal stripper.

Die

  • Use standard Size 1 die for punches with diagonal dimension up to 1.181(30.00). Use standard Size 2 die thereafter.
  • High wear resistant steel with optimum balance between hardness to resist wear and toughness to resist cracking.
  • Uniform corner clearance radii to improve piece part quality.
  • Slug Free® die geometry available for extreme punching applications.

Size 76 - for sizes 1.576-3.000(40.01-76.20)

Punch Holder

  • The NEXT™ Insert Tooling System is fully compatable with existing machine strippers.

Die

  • Use standard Size 2 die.
  • High wear resistant steel with optimum balance between hardness to resist wear and toughness to resist cracking.
  • Uniform corner clearance radii to improve piece part quality.
  • Slug Free® die geometry available for extreme punching applications.

The High Speed Steel punch inserts deliver exceptional edge wear resistance. The M4 HSS Insert in sizes up to 0.031-1.181(0.80-30.00) delivers the longest possible interval between regrinds. In addition, by installing the shim after 0.118(3.00) has been removed from the punch during regrinding, the punch assembly is returned to its original length instead of being replaced.
