Workholding Application Engineer


Mate Precision Tooling is seeking a professional with strong experience and current understanding in machining and workholding, particularly with vertical and horizontal machining centers, and with excellent communication and presentation skills.  The successful candidate will help advance a new and growing product and market expansion

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and conduct education and training programs specific to workholding devices and applications
  • Be the workholding subject matter expert: provide technical, commercial and application guidance to internal and external staff and to customers
  • Contribute to product and market strategy decisions
  • Contribute content to support printed and digital materials
  • Participate in key customer facing activities
  • Support and expand business partner relationships

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough understanding of multi-axis machining
  • Thorough understanding of workholding principles and the mechanics of holding and clamping and how various material types and thicknesses impact machining
  • Skilled and experienced in public speaking and communicating effectively using standard presentation tools and techniques
  • Thorough understanding of workholding market including various suppliers and their products
  • Have competence with the mathematics involved in working with force and tolerances
  • Possesses strong spatial aptitude, is skilled at visualizing in two and three dimensions
  • Strong practical experience with various tooling designs and applications
  • Knowledgeable in matters of cutting tool design, application and functionality
  • Knowledgeable in areas of CAD, CAM, 2D, 3D and software that is used in the machining process
  • Knowledgeable in matters of pneumatics, hydraulics and automation relative to workholding
  • Proven ability to manage projects and report actions to management and other teammates

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Post High School technical, industrial or machining education preferred
  • Five to ten years of multi-axis VMC HMC machining experience required
  • Proficiency in oral and written English is required
  • Strong technical writing skills are required
  • Public speaking experience is required

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in German, Italian and/or Spanish is a plus
